Well well welll the semester is finaly over!!!! time to relax and enjoy the summer. Since this is the end, i will not have any more art work to put up here, well any that is required of me. the final assingment for class was to create a website as a portfolio for our work. have you ever wondered how cookies would get into a glass of milk with out our help? well i have so i decided to make a stop animation piece that shows how some cookies work together to get into the glass of milk.

Animation

Rapid display of a sequence of images to create an illusion of movement

Most common way of presenting animation is through motion pictures or videos.

phenakistoscope, zoetrope, praxinoscope and flip book were the early popular animation devices which were invented during the 1800s.

Georges Méliès was the creator of special effect films. Generally he was one of the first to use animation with special effects. He discovered stop motion only by accident. He stop the camera rolling to change something in the scene, and then continue rolling the film. This accident happen when he was shooting a bus driving by and his camera broke down while shooting.

J. Stuart Blackton was first American filmmaker to use stop motion and hand drawn animation and is considered to be the first true animator.

Émile Cohl, was the first to use hand drawn animation. He drew stick figures images and took a picture of his drawings to give it the blackboard look.

Animated short films later known as cartoon became an industry during the 1910s. most successful early animtion producers were John Randolph Bray and Earl Hurd.

Video Art

Type of art that relies on moving pictures and is comprised of video and audio. Video art came into existence during the 1960s 1970s.

Nam June Paik is believed to be the person who begun video art whit his footage of Pope Paul IV procession through NYC in 1965.

Before the introduction of the Sony Portapak technology, then only thing that was available was eight or sixteen mm film. This film did not provide instance playback.

Sound Art

Contemporary art that incorporates sound, listening and hearing as the main focus. The earliest use of the term sound art in the America was in 1983 by William Hermerman. Don Goddard, and art historian said “It may be that sound art adheres to curator Hellermann’s perception that “hearing is another form of seeing,’ that sound has meaning only when its connection with an image is understood… The conjunction of sound and image insists on the engagement of the viewer, forcing participation in real space and concrete, responsive thought rather than illusionary space and thought.”

Stop Motion

animation technique that makes a still object to move on its own.

Albert E. Smith and J. Stuart Blackton first to use stop motion with the humpty dumpty circus in 1889.

look in the mirror

when you look in the mirror, you only see what is reflected. what about what is going on inside of your head? what thoughts do you have? What i wanted to convey in my unreal portrait was the internal struggle between good and bad, whats right and whats wrong. which side has the most influence at this point in your life. no one wants to think that what they do is considered evil or bad, but it is hard to go through your life without doing any wrong. some people do more wrong than other and never think to do what is right. there is a little bad in everyone. in my unreal portrait i hope others can see that one believe that they a good person, and that is true for the majority of people, but when look in the mirror and face your self, you can see the bad that is in you that others may not see.

for this project we are still using our skills we learned for our collage project. this time we are creating an unreal portrait using photo shop. we have to use at least one digital photo that we took our self. While creating my unreal portrait i was having some trouble getting the idea that i had in my head to show up in the portrait. At times i wanted to come up with an entire new idea, but i felt like the idea that i had was a good one. it was trying to show it in a portrait that was the most difficult for me.

Simulacra and Simulation

Simularcra and Simulation is philosophical idea that was developed by Jean Baudrillard. Simulacra and Simulation focuses on the interaction between reality, symbol, and society. Baudrillard claimed that modern society has replaced all reality and meanings with symbols and signs. The experiences that we have is a simulation of reality, and not reality itself.

Reality, Hyperreality

The author of Reality, Hyperreality tried to explain reality and hyperreality by using different theories from a few men. These theories were very confusing. Even at the end when the author tried to clarify, I was still lost. The Wikioedia entry on hyperreality made more since of the subject. Hyperreality is the inability of the consciousness to distinguish reality from fantasy. The conscience sees the unreal as real. This idea is helpful in creating an unreal portrait by allowing artists to convey something that is not real as being real.

In Your Face

In your face talks of how many artist are now using portraits to comment on issues such as individual identity, social inequality, politics and even celebrity obsession. This trend of using portraits to show many different issues is a phenomenon that is going on world-wide. More and more artists, like Cindy Sherman, are creating portraits in new ways. No longer are artist only taking a picture, now artist are manipulating pictures in various ways to create a different view point on different issues.
